Test post showing the news template, therapeutic-area tags and automatic citation formatting.

This is a test post. Citations typed in square brackets in the editor appear as superscript numbers linked to the reference list, which is built from PubMed identifiers.

Background

In patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction, the SGLT2 inhibitors dapagliflozin and empagliflozin reduced the combined risk of worsening heart failure or cardiovascular death in the DAPA-HF and EMPEROR-Reduced trials1,2.

Earlier, the EMPA-REG OUTCOME trial reported fewer cardiovascular deaths with empagliflozin in people with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease3.
